Solo Exhibition

The artist held his second solo exhibition in London. All artworks presented at the exhibition were purchased by the London Museum.

Just one year after his celebrated Baku debut, Ibrahim Hasanov carried his work to one of the world’s great cultural stages. His second solo exhibition, held in London in 1991, introduced an international audience to an artist of rare originality — and the response was immediate and unequivocal.

The exhibition drew particular attention to his Caravan series, a body of work realised in his signature soft sculpture technique. These pieces captivated visitors with their quietly powerful presence — figures and forms that seemed to carry the weight of journey, memory, and time within their fabric. The tactile, almost living quality of the soft sculpture medium gave the Caravan works an emotional resonance that transcended language and geography.

The London Museum’s decision to acquire the entire exhibition was not simply a commercial transaction — it was a statement of recognition. Every artwork on display found a permanent home within the museum’s collection, a distinction that few artists achieve and one that cemented Hasanov’s standing on the international stage.

For an artist from Baku whose creative path had been shaped by relentless experimentation and an expansive artistic vision, London was not an arrival — it was a confirmation. The world had caught up with what he had always known.
